Materials and Inventory Management
An initial visit is made to the Client's plant to assess the present Materials,
Inventory Control, and Warehouse/Storeroom activities. The visit will
concentrate on the following areas:
 | Responsibilities of Stores, Maintenance, Purchasing, and other departments |
 | Methods used in setting items up in inventory and their replenishment
strategies |
 | Techniques of control for critical spare/insurance parts |
 | Programs in place for inventory optimization - having the right mix and
not too much or too little inventory |
 | Procedures in place to prevent, identify, and dispose of surplus materials |
 | Physical facilities and storage of materials - size, layout, bin
numbering, equipment, security |
 | Methods used to put away, retrieve, and distribute items and to handle
returns |
 | Use of techniques such as self-service material, consignment inventory,
vendor stocking, procurement cards, bar coding, EDI, imaging |
 | Methods used to measure performance and to benchmark against industry
standards |
 | Use of the management information system to improve service to customers
and reduce inventory |
At the conclusion of the visit we would be prepared to present next steps to
moving ahead in a Materials Management Improvement Program and, our
participation in the Program.
